Psychiatry & Medication Management

Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in the world — and one of the most treatable. You don’t have to keep managing it alone, and you don’t have to live inside it forever.

What Psychiatry at Psych Matters Looks Like

More Than a Prescription Pad

Most people with anxiety aren’t just “stressed.” They’re lying awake at 2am running through scenarios that haven’t happened. They’re canceling plans because something feels too hard. They’re functioning — sometimes at a very high level — while carrying a constant weight that nobody else can see. That takes a toll, and it rarely gets better on its own.

Anxiety therapy at Psych Matters is evidence-based and direct. Our therapists don’t just help you understand your anxiety — they give you the tools to actually change your relationship with it. Relief is possible, and it doesn’t require years of open-ended sessions to get there.

Our Clinical Process

What to Expect From Your Care

Every patient’s experience starts with a thorough evaluation — not a rushed intake. From there, care is built around you: your history, your goals, and what actually works in your life.

Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation

A thorough review of your history, symptoms, prior treatments, and goals. We take the time to get the full picture before drawing any conclusions.

Accurate Diagnosis

Misdiagnosis is more common than most people realize. We prioritize precision — because the right diagnosis changes everything about what comes next.

Personalized Treatment Plan

Medication management, referral to therapy, or a coordinated combination — your plan is built around what your situation actually calls for.

Ongoing Monitoring & Adjustment

Psychiatric care isn’t a one-and-done appointment. We follow your progress closely and adjust as needed — because what works changes over time.

Medication Management

Thoughtful Prescribing. Ongoing Partnership.

Medication management at Psych Matters isn’t a quarterly check-in to renew a prescription. It’s an ongoing clinical relationship — responsive, precise, and always anchored in how you’re actually doing.

Right Medication, Right Dose

Finding the right medication takes expertise and patience. Our providers use a systematic, evidence-based approach to identify what works — and aren’t afraid to change course if something isn’t.

Active Monitoring & Follow-Up

Response to medication changes over time. We track your progress closely, watch for side effects, and adjust proactively — not reactively.

Coordinated with Therapy

When therapy is part of your plan, our psychiatric and therapy providers work together. Medication and therapeutic work are more effective in combination — and we’re built to deliver both.

Patient Autonomy at the Center

You’re an active participant in your treatment decisions — not a passive recipient. Your preferences, concerns, and lived experience matter as much as the clinical data.

Thorough Medication Reviews

For patients coming with existing prescriptions, we conduct a full medication review — checking for interactions, appropriateness, and whether the current regimen still makes sense.

Available via Telehealth

All medication management services are available via secure telehealth in New York and Texas — with in-person appointments available for those who prefer them.

Beyond Medication

Brain-Based Tools That Expand Your Treatment Options

For patients who want alternatives or complements to medication, we offer non-invasive brain-based tools that provide deeper insight and additional treatment pathways.

Neurofeedback (NFB)

A drug-free approach that trains brainwave activity in real time, helping regulate mood, attention, anxiety, and sleep. Effective as a standalone treatment or alongside medication for conditions like ADHD, PTSD, and depression.

BrainView Brain Mapping

A comprehensive neurological assessment that measures brainwave patterns, cognitive function, and neurological health — providing objective data that informs diagnosis and helps tailor treatment with greater precision.

Common Questions

Common Questions About Psychiatric Care

What happens during a psychiatric evaluation?

A psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive clinical interview — typically 45 to 60 minutes — in which your provider reviews your current symptoms, personal and family mental health history, medical history, prior treatments, medications, and life circumstances. The goal is to develop an accurate clinical picture before making any diagnosis or treatment recommendations. You won’t leave with a rushed diagnosis or a prescription you don’t understand.

In most cases, no. You can contact us directly to schedule a psychiatric evaluation. Depending on your insurance plan, a referral from your primary care provider may be required, but we’ll walk you through that when you reach out. We make the intake process as straightforward as possible.

Not necessarily. Medication is one tool, not a default. After your evaluation, your provider will discuss all appropriate treatment options — which may include medication, therapy, lifestyle recommendations, or a combination. If medication is recommended, your provider will explain the reasoning clearly and address any concerns before moving forward. You’re always part of that decision.

Yes. If you’re already on psychiatric medication and looking for a new provider, we can conduct a comprehensive medication review as part of your intake. Your new provider will review your current regimen, discuss what’s been working and what hasn’t, and determine the most appropriate path forward — whether that’s continuing, adjusting, or changing your current medications.

Yes. Several of our providers specialize specifically in child and adolescent psychiatry, with training and experience working with patients as young as toddlers through teens. Pediatric psychiatric care requires a distinct clinical approach, and we have providers who trained specifically for it — not generalists applying adult frameworks. We also work closely with parents and caregivers throughout the treatment process.

Psychiatry focuses on the medical evaluation, diagnosis, and biological treatment of mental health conditions — including medication management. Therapy focuses on the psychological and behavioral dimensions, using talk-based interventions to help you understand patterns, process experiences, and build coping skills. Many patients benefit from both, and at Psych Matters, our psychiatric and therapy providers work together so your care is genuinely integrated rather than parallel.
